Debuts the new Volkswagen Tiguan R. The compact SUV of the German brand debuts a high-performance version, also putting the icing on the range and expanding the list of models of the sports brand Volkswagen R. With a more powerful image, debuts new 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 320 hp.
There have been many spy photos we have been seeing of the test mules of what is already the most sporty and powerful variant of the compact SUV. The second generation of the model has seen a top-of-the-range version, with a more aggressive dynamic configuration and with the seal of Volkswagen R.
The Tiguan R sports the same aesthetic improvements implemented in the Tiguan 2021 range, with a more modern front image, thanks to the new narrower headlights and the visual connection it makes with the chrome grille bars, which sports the “R” emblem. On the bumper, the trim on the side air vents is glossy black, and the mirror caps are in satin aluminum.
The standard alloy wheels are 21 inches, in “Estoril” design, with the brake calipers painted blue insight. On the back, it presents the same new design of the light graphic of the lights. Compared to normal versions of the new Tiguan, it differs in that, under the logo, it features the letter “R” instead of the model name. Only the rear bumper is different, with an integrated diffuser and four exhaust outlets.
Inside, the Tiguan R also features the same refreshed design, albeit with specific details, such as the characteristic consonant on the “Virtual Cockpit” instrument cluster, and which also project the exterior rear-view mirrors to the ground. The steering wheel features blue accents and integrated shift paddles, plus the “R” button that activates the special “Race” driving mode.
Volkswagen has also given a special touch to the decoration of the dashboard, with some carbon gray moldings that surround the ventilation nozzles on both sides of the instrument panel, while the sports front seats have also improved the lateral support.
The German brand has also imprinted a more special stamp on driving dynamics and mechanics. The 2.0-liter TSI gasoline engine yields a maximum power of 320 hp, offering great performance that we are waiting to learn in more detail. It is associated with the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
For the more daring, the option of mounting an exhaust system signed by Akrapovič is offered. On the dynamic side, the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system adds a variable torque distribution function between the two axles and between the left and right rear wheels. Also, it has a driving mode selector, with 7 possible configurations, the “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Offroad”, “Snow”, “Offroad Individual”, “Individual” and “Race”, this can be activated from the transmission console.
The adaptive damping system, which is also standard, now lowers the height of the body by 10 millimeters, and in the more aggressive “Race” mode, the driver can obtain the most extreme sensations by completely disconnecting the driving aids such as traction control.
