Volkswagen will launch a hot version of the Tiguan in 2021. At the Nürburgring, Volkswagen is currently testing the VW Tiguan R, which is based on the face-lifted model.
The revised Tiguan will be launched in summer 2020 and will be launched with an optical and technical revision. The now shot Erlkönig of the VW Tiguan R shows himself almost undetected and presents in the rear apron two double-flow oval tailpipes as can already be seen on the Golf R.
Accordingly, the exhaust gases come from the 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder. The unit has an output of 333 hp and is at a good distance from the T-Roc R with 300 hp. The five-cylinder from the Audi RS Q3 was on Wolfsburg’s wish list, but Audi declined.
The driver uses seven-speed DSG to direct the engine power to all four permanently driven wheels. Behind the special alloy wheels in 19 inches (surcharge 20 inches) there is a larger brake system with perforated discs and blue brake calipers, the SUV is also lowered and has adaptive dampers and a differential lock as well as progressive steering. The driving programs have been expanded to include a “race mode” that includes launch control. The ESP can also be deactivated.
The exterior is also aggressive. The expressive apron comes with larger air openings. The sills are on display and an underride guard is shown at the rear. The mirror caps are in chrome. The passengers take a seat on the front in contoured leather sports seats, the driver reaches into a sports steering wheel and looks at fully digital instruments.
While a lot of light shines into the interior through the panorama roof, a premium audio system entertains the passengers. The large screen in the center console serves as a control unit for the infotainment system (MIB 3). Entry guides and pedals in stainless steel, headlining in black, ambient lighting, R logos – the VW Tiguan R is ready.
