Although it has been on the market for only a short time, the Toyota GR Supra has just received its first update with the presentation of the new 2021 model in the United States. Available from next summer, the new model is not distinguishable from its predecessor, although it does enjoy some important new features, including new mechanical specifications for the 6-cylinder version, which now has about 50 more additional horsepower.

So the highest version of the new Toyota GR Supra 2021, the one equipped with the original BMW supercharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine and which it shares with the BMW Z4 M40i, now delivers 387 hp and 499 Nm of maximum torque, instead of the 340 CV and 495 Nm of torque of the model marketed so far. What doesn’t change is the transmission, which remains the same 8-ratio automatic gearbox. Thanks to the increase in power, the Japanese firm has announced new performance figures. The new Toyota GR Supra 2021 is capable of reaching 100 km / h from standstill in just 3.9 seconds, instead of the 4.1 that it took for the 2020 Supra model.

In addition to the mechanical improvements, which affect only the 6-cylinder version of the Supra, various improvements and new features have also been announced in the frame and equipment areas. The new Supra 2021 debuts new suspension configuration thanks to a recalibration of the shock absorbers, in addition to small modifications to the configuration of the active differential, the stability control, and the steering system. This will inevitably mean changes in the dynamic behavior of the vehicle, although the company has not been more specific with this topic. We will also find new aluminum arms to hold the radiator supports and thus increase the rigidity of the assembly.

In terms of equipment improvements, all versions of the revamped Supra 2021 range lose the 6.5-inch display of the infotainment system in favor of a new 8.8-inch display. Additionally, the company has enhanced the safety and technology package that includes Dynamic Cruise Control, Rear Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Alert, and Automatic Emergency Braking System. Among the technological equipment, we find a renewed navigation system, audio system with 12 speakers and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

At the moment, the new Toyota Supra GR 2021 has only been presented in the United States. We still do not even have the confirmation that this series of novelties will be implemented in the rest of the markets where the model is available. But it will be expected to be so, so Europeans should not take long to know the updated and enhanced Supra 2021 intended for our market.
