Opels are putting more and more models under power. The latest addition is the fully electric Zafira-e Life large van. The nine-seater is to mark the top of the Zafira Life series in the future and comes in three-vehicle lengths with space for up to nine people.
Also, most versions of the Zafira-e Life are less than 1.90 meters high and therefore suitable for underground parking – especially important for hotel shuttles. Opel also offers an optional towbar for the Zafira-e Life. This allows the Stromer to pull trailer loads of up to 1,000 kilograms.
With an output of 100 kW / 136 hp and a maximum torque of 260 Newton meters, the Zafira-e Life is more motorized than many other electric vans. The top speed is limited to 130 km / h, which protects the electric range and at the same time enables relaxed, quiet, and emission-free cruising according to the motorway speed in Germany.
Customers can choose between two differently sized lithium-ion batteries. Depending on requirements, a battery with 75 kWh for a range of up to 330 kilometers and a 50 kWh battery for a maximum of 230 kilometers according to the WLTP standard are available. With the larger motorization, the Zafira-e Life should even be suitable for a family vacation trip.
The batteries consist of 27 or 18 modules. Since a battery-electric version was planned from the beginning, the batteries are installed under the luggage compartment in such a way that they do not restrict the charging volume. Thanks to their position, they also lower the vehicle’s center of gravity, which should improve driving characteristics – especially in curves and in crosswinds. A regenerative braking system, with which the Zafira-e Life can recuperate energy in the overrun phase or when braking, makes the electric van even more efficient.
Fast charging in half an hour
The batteries of the Zafire-e Life can be charged via a wall box at home, quick charger on the go, or via any socket. The 50 kWh battery of the Zafira-e Life can be recharged 80 percent in half an hour on a quick charging station with 100 kW DC.
With the large 75 kWh battery, this takes three-quarters of an hour. The Zafira-e Life charges 7.4 kW as standard. As an option, there is also an 11 kW on-board charger for three-phase alternating current, so-called three-phase current. All charging processes take place efficiently and gently so that Opel gives the battery a guarantee of eight years.
With OpelConnect, the Opel app, and the Free2Move3 services app there are several services and operating options via smartphone.
With the new functions from OpelConnect, customers can also use their smartphones to check the charge level of the battery, program the interior temperature before setting off, and program charging times. Also, OpelConnect offers automatic emergency calls and a direct line to breakdown assistance. With LIVE Navigation4, traffic events can be recorded in real-time and traffic jams dynamically avoided.
Electric van in three lengths
Customers can choose from three lengths for the Zafira-e Life – perfect for every need. The short Opel Zafira-e Life “Small” is bustling among the compact vans but offers considerably more space and space for up to nine passengers – unique in this class.
At the same time, it convinces a small turning circle (11.3 meters), good handling, and two sensor-controlled sliding doors that can be opened electrically from the outside with a foot movement towards the vehicle – also a comfort feature that is unique in this segment. The Opel Zafira-e Life “Medium” has a 35-centimeter longer wheelbase (3.28 meters for both “M” and “L”), which means more foot space for the rear passengers.
The Opel scores with a large tailgate and easy access to the loading compartment. The 5.30 meter long Opel Zafira-e Life “Large” challenges the large vans and scores with a maximum loading volume of around 4,500 liters.
The foldable backrest of the front passenger seat enables goods up to 3.50 meters in length to be transported. To increase the trunk volume (up to under the roof) in the Zafira-e Life “S” to 1,500 liters, the seats in the third row can simply be folded down. Removing the rear seats increases the loading capacity up to 3,397 liters.
Luxury equipment planned for VIP shuttles
The lounge line is the top equipment for the two versions with a long wheelbase. Electrically heated front seats with massage function, behind them four leather armchairs, each with a comfortable 48-centimeter seat width, which can be moved. The VIP guests can also sit across from each other with plenty of legroom.
The new all-electric large-capacity passenger car from Opel has driver assistance systems. A front camera and a distance radar jointly control what is happening in front of the vehicle. The system even recognizes pedestrians crossing the street and can initiate emergency braking up to 30 km / h. The semi-adaptive speed controller and limiter adjusts the speed of the vehicle to the person in front, automatically takes off the gas, and thus reduces the speed to 20 km / h if necessary.
Order and delivery data
The lane departure warning system and fatigue control support and warn the driver if he has been behind the steering wheel for too long and a break is urgently necessary. The high-beam assistant automatically fades up and down above 25 km / h. Speed, distance to the vehicle in front, or navigation can also be shown on the Zafira-e Life via a colored head-up display – also unique in the segment.
Ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear aprons report obstacles to the driver when parking. Depending on the equipment, a reversing camera transmits its image to the inside mirror or the seven-inch monitor – in the latter case with a 180-degree bird’s eye view.
The seven-inch touchscreen is available in conjunction with the “Multimedia Radio” and “Multimedia Navi Pro” infotainment systems. Both systems integrate smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Thanks to Opel Connect, the navigation system of the “Multimedia Navi Pro” has real-time traffic information.
