The new Opel Mokka-e 2021 is 100% electric and has completely changed its design compared to the previous generation. It has much more technology and better arguments to face the competitors that are already available in the market. This is all its news.
The Opel Mokka is renewed. And this new generation not only loses the ‘X’ in the name, in the case of the versions with a thermal engine but also introduces the Opel Mokka-e as a 100% electric option. No surprise because the German brand thus adapts to the PSA Group’s strategy and follows the lead of models such as the Peugeot 2008 or the Corsa itself.
And being one of the most important novelties of the new generation, the Opel Mokka 2021, the firm has uncovered it before giving any details about the versions with a thermal engine. With a much more current design in which the front module that groups both the smooth, bright grill and the IntelliLux LED matrix headlights stands out, all a hallmark of the house.
The Opel Mokka-e is 100% electric: with 50 kWh it promises 322 kilometers of autonomy
This new generation is developed on the CMP platform of the PSA Group, the same as the Opel Corsa. This has not only allowed a new range with gasoline, diesel, and 100% electric options -which is what we are dealing with- but also make it weigh 120 kg less than the previous generation. And also, with 30% higher torsional rigidity. The malate now has a capacity of 350 liters.
There are other important changes, such as those in its measurements: the Opel Mokka-e has a length of 4.15 meters. The wheelbase has been increased by 2mm, but the body is 125mm shorter. But perhaps what most interests you is its electrical system, starring the 50 kWh capacity battery and connected to a single front 136 kW maximum power electric motor with 260 Nm of torque.
It is only capable of driving at a maximum speed of 150 km / h, by limitation, and its autonomy is 322 kilometers according to the WLTP approval cycle. As for the load, it allows single-phase, three-phase, and 100 kWh connections with a fast charge system with which we can go from 0% to 80% in 30 minutes according to the official data from the manufacturer.
New technologies in the Opel Mokka-e
Like the exterior design, which bears little resemblance to the previous-generation Mokka, the interior is a whole new concept. And it has tried to capture the same identity of the body, and specific details such as the Opel Vizor – the front grille module and lighting optics – with what they call the Opel Pure Panel. A console that brings together the digital instrument cluster up to 12 inches and the multimedia screen up to 10 inches. And of course, with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as with Opel Connect.
There is no lack of key technological elements in this cabin at the moment, such as the wireless charging system for smartphones following the Qi standard. And although now within the PSA Group, Opel continues to take care of details that have always defined it as seats, with various options with ergonomic designs.
And again in terms of technology, although in this case specifically focused on security, the new Opel Mokka-e has adaptive cruise control, active lane maintenance system, 180-degree rearview camera for parking, or recognition of traffic signs among others.
The new Opel Mokka-e will hit the market in late summer 2020
To know the rest of the details about the new Opel Mokka-e we are going to have to wait for little, because the brand has already advanced, although not yet revealing the price at which it will be available, which will go on sale this coming summer of 2020 Before that we will be able to know not only the price but also the possible versions and equipment for the renewed SUV.
