The new Opel Astra 2021 promises to arrive loaded with qualities and features that will make it stand out from the rest of its rivals. Now, the model will already incorporate the technology of the PSA group so the Astra will become a 100% French product. It will be developed on the EMP2 modular platform, the same one used by its brothers: the Peugeot 308, the Peugeot 3008, the Peugeot 5008, the Citroën C5 Aircross, the DS 7 Crossback, or the Opel Grandland X.
This will be the new Opel Astra 2021
The Opel Astra 2021 will have exterior dimensions quite similar to previous models. This new generation will have a length of 4.37 meters, a width of 1.80 meters, and a height of 1.48 meters. Also, it will have a trunk with a capacity of 370 liters that can be increased to 1,210 liters if the rear seats are folded. This means that the new compact of the brand belonging to the PSA group will offer very good habitability for four adult passengers.
The Opel Astra has always been characterized by complying, with a very good note, in curves. This is made possible by well-tuned suspension and a good direct steering feel.
The new Opel Astra is inspired by the new Opel Mokka and the Opel Crossland X from 2021 and will also feature the new corporate front dubbed Vizor. This new front is intended to provide a greater visual sensation. The designers have also ensured that it could have some aesthetic solutions of the new Opel Corsa. It is also possible that the family version called Sports Tourer will remain.
As confirmed, the interior of the new Opel Astra will be much more livable and spacious, but it will have extra modernity and will offer a better atmosphere. Also, it will be completely digitized as it will have the latest in driving assistance systems and connectivity. As the brand of the spoke and the ring has affirmed, the new Opel Astra 2021 will offer a radical design that will stand out in the compact segment.
Technological arsenal of the new Opel Astra
The Opel Astra 2021 will equip, as standard, state-of-the-art driving assistance systems that will become an essential aid for all drivers. Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning system, or even traffic sign reader are just some of the aids that the compact appeal will feature.
Comfort has also been improved in the successful compact of the new PSA Group brand. This bestseller is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, adjustable multifunction steering wheel, electric parking brake, LED daytime running lights, hill start assist, tire pressure sensor, and an infotainment system with a touch screen.
Engines, emissions, and DGT label
At the moment there is no official confirmation of all the available engines that the new Opel Astra 2021 will have, but everything indicates that most of the sales will be taken by the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine. This engine belongs to the PureTech family and could offer variants that reach 155 hp of power, although it could also be available with 1.5-liter turbodiesel options with 102 and 120 hp of power.
The main novelty of the compact will reside in the adoption of two plug-in hybrid variants, PHEV. One of them will have 225 hp of power that will come from the combination of a gasoline engine with an electric one. This version is front-wheel drive. Drivers will also be able to opt for a 300 hp version that features two electric motors and an all-wheel drive. In both cases, the gasoline engine will be the four-cylinder, 1.6-liter, 180 hp. Also, all engines will be of Peugeot origin.
It will land on the market in mid-2022
The new German compact, which has been adopted by the French group PSA, will be manufactured at the Rüsselsheim plant and could have a price close to 21,000 euros if you opt for the 1.2-liter version of 110 hp gasoline and can reach up to 45,000 euros if the 300 hp plug-in hybrid version is chosen.
This sixth generation will be presented in 2021 but will not reach dealers until 2022 and is developed on the modular platform called EMP2 of the PSA group and according to Opel “it will also allow manufacturing an electrified version of the best-seller of the C segment in Rüsselsheim”.
