The new proposal from the Chinese automaker is called NIO ET7. It is a 100% electric saloon equipped with a 653 CV drive scheme that also promises up to 1,000 kilometers of autonomy. Next, we tell you all the details of the Japanese model.
If we look back to review the history of NIO we find an Asian firm that has long been trying to break into the world of electric vehicles. The latest company launches came in the form of SUVs under the names of: ES6, ES8 and ECS. Although it is likely that the first model of the brand that comes to mind is the NIO EP9, a spectacular Electric hypercar with 1,341 hp and 1,480 Nm of torque which today occupies tenth place in the ranking of fastest laps in the history of the Nürburgring.
The new member of the NIO family is called ET7 And it is a sophisticated 100% electric saloon that reaches the Chinese market to stand up to the Tesla Model S. Its dimensions are of 5.09 meters long, 1.98 meters wide and 1.50 meters high. At the same time, the wheelbase is 3.06 meters, which translates into a very spacious interior space, especially in the second row.
In relation to the aesthetic section, we are facing a vehicle with flowing lines with a clean and modern design which plays in favor of the aerodynamics of the whole, which in this case achieves a CX of 0.23. In this sense we find some elements that are common in other proposals that obey a similar approach such as flush door handles or faired wheels.
Inside, the firm bets on a minimalist environment that combines top quality materials with the latest technology on the market. The white leather upholstery is visible on the seats, dashboard, center console and door panels. In front of the driving position we have a digital instrument cluster that shines on a discreet horizontal screen. On your right we find a gigantic 12.8-inch vertical AMOLED screen that doubles as an infotainment system. To this we have to add a hi-fi sound system that includes 23 speakers and 1,000 W of power.
Although in the technological plane, without a doubt, the great attraction goes through an advanced autonomous driving system. The so-called Nio Autonomous Driving is made up of 33 sensors that analyze the car environment supported by four Nvidia signature processors that offer superior performance to those employed by Tesla in its vehicles. This equipment is completed with 11 high resolution cameras, a LiDAR radar, dual GPS and 12 ultrasonic sensors. All this allows the new NIO ET7 travel a distance of up to 680 meters in autonomous mode. In order to access this function, you must be attached to a monthly subscription service.
On a mechanical level, the new NIO ET7 mounts an electrical system made up of two motors – one on each axle – that together are capable of developing 653 hp of power and 850 Nm of maximum torque. Thanks to this configuration, the Chinese saloon can complete the 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.9 seconds.
Regarding batteries, three different options are offered with power packs. 70 kWh, 100 kWh and 150 kWh. The most basic configuration allows the NIO ET7 to travel 500 kilometers of distance. The intermediate option increases this figure to 700 kilometers and the top-of-the-range version reaches 1,000 kilometers on a single charge. All these approvals respond to NEDC cycle. The data corresponding to the WLTP cycle are still unknown, so we cannot establish comparisons with models present in the European market.
Compared to the usual charging points offered by other manufacturers, NIO offers an innovative solution for its vehicles called Power Swap Station 2.0. It is a vision of the future that contemplates the creation of an infrastructure made up of different battery change stations. Thanks to this, the clients of the Chinese firm could replace the discharged batteries of their cars with complete ones in a matter of a few minutes.
The new NIO ET7 is now available on the Chinese market for a price starting at 378,000 yuan (47,870 euros at the exchange rate) in the case of choosing the option with batteries for rent. In the case of wanting to own them, the rate increases up to 448,000 yuan (56,760 euros). The first deliveries will take place in early 2022.
