- The famous American 4x4 has just presented its new generation, and with it an unprecedented version with three rows of seats.
The new generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L will be one of the great launches that the North American brand has scheduled for the next few years, a legend within the company that will soon be completely renewed. Everything indicated that the development of the 4×4 would continue on its way during 2021 until leading to a presentation at the end of the year, but the brand has surprised us by anticipating all the events and removing the final veil from the new delivery of the famous 4×4.
Jeep Grand Cherokee L With seven seats
Also, the most curious thing about this advance presentation is that Jeep has not shown all the versions of the new generation, but a single variant that we echoed thanks to the photographs that our spies sent us a few months ago. Of course, we are talking about an extended-wheelbase Jeep Grand Cherokee that the brand calls L, that is, the off-road has been conveniently lengthened to accommodate three rows of seats inside, a measure that will also extend to other SUVs of the company.
Given its dimensions -5.20 meters long by 1.96 wide and 1.81 high, not forgetting a 3.09 m wheelbase- the Jeep Grand Cherokee L will compete with some alternatives of identical proportions in its local market, like the Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer. It is not yet clear how the increase in the rear overhang will have affected its off-road capabilities, but everything indicates that at least one variant obtains the “Trail Rated” certification that so characterizes Jeep 4x4s.
As we expected, the exterior design of the Grand Cherokee L is quite different from the current model with which we are familiar. For example, the front end resembles the Grand Wagoneer Concept with sleek horizontal headlights and a vertical seven-pillar grille. Depending on the equipment level, there are also daytime running lights with LED technology in the lower part of the bumper, while in the rear there are slim lights.
Concerning the interior, the American firm has introduced important changes since the general design is completely different from the current generation. Perhaps the highlight is the all-new center console that houses an 8.4-inch or optional 10.1-inch touchscreen, both of which use the latest Jeep UConnect 5 infotainment system and feature wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. . As standard, the Grand Cherokee includes a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster that is configurable and can display information of all kinds, including the vehicle’s night vision system.
About the mechanical part, everything indicated that the American brand was going to introduce a new block of six cylinders in line and 3.0 liters of displacement, called to be the replacement of the current 3.6-liter V6. However, this has not been the case and the Pentastar engine is still present, with 290 horsepower and 348 Nm of maximum torque, while the most performance alternative continues to be a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that develops 357 hp and 528 Nm.
Regardless of which engine customers choose, the Grand Cherokee comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends all power to the rear wheels as standard, although an all-wheel-drive system is optionally available. Another key element is the Quadra-Lift adaptive air suspension that provides 21 centimeters of ground clearance, although the height can be adjusted according to its different configurations.
Finally, it should be noted that Jeep has not yet announced the prices of this unpublished version and has not commented anything about the arrival of the traditional five-door body. We will be attentive to future news.
