Genesis GV70 ‘s spy photos released. From early 2020, Hyundai’s premium brand Genesis will also be offering its models on the German market. Including a compact SUV that is currently being tested as Erlkönig at the Nürburgring.
Genesis plans to have a total of six new models in its portfolio by 2021. The sedans G90, G80 and G70 have already been presented. The large SUV GV80 as a BMW X5 competitor and the now caught compact SUV GV70 are still missing. As the last model, the Koreans are planning a luxury sports coupe based on the G70, which is based on the recently presented “Mint” study.
The 2021 Genesis GV70 is also based on the G70. The SUV is based on the GV80 study. It already appears as the Erlkönig with a coupé-like roof, recessed passenger compartment and a rounded rear with narrow lights drawn deep into the fenders. The side view is characterized by two strong beads and strong wheel arches. Striking at the rear: the upright rectangular tailpipes.
The exhaust gas from the 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 252 hp and 353 Nm torque escapes from them. The top version is allowed to exhaust the combustion residues of a 365 hp twin-turbo V6 – it has 510 Nm available. A diesel engine should also find its way into the Genesis GV70. The power transmission is also provided with question marks. The six-speed automatic from the G70 could be used here. It is also questionable whether the GV70 will only start with all-wheel drive or a rear-wheel drive version.
The next building block of the new Genesis product portfolio is in the works. With the GV70, the Koreans are targeting the German competition and are also likely to be in dispute with customers internally. A major shortcoming is that the SUV will start without any form of electrification.
