Very sporty SUVs have not finished making headlines. To respond to the Lamborghini Urus, the BMW X8 is currently preparing in the greatest secrecy.
On the Munich side, we see the multiplication of very high-end sports SUVs in the vein of the Lamborghini Urus or the Bentley Bentayga, not to mention the arrival in 2021 of the Ferrari Purosangue. This is why, based on the recent BMW X7, a 4-door coupe version will soon go into production.
Within the BMW group, the Rolls-Royce brand recently received the honor of entering the ultra-premium crossover segment, with the Cullinan. If for the moment, no competitor seems inclined to oppose the latter, the competition intensifies a notch below. The Munich Propeller has just responded to the Mercedes GLS with the BMW X7, which is already considering deploying a sports version, this time-limited to 5 seats.
Much longer than the 4.91m in the current X6, the future BMW X8 would be approximately 5.10m in length, roughly the size of a Lamborghini Urus. Conversely, it should be slightly shorter than the BMW X7 (5.15 m) from which it will derive, but will undoubtedly resume the dashboard, for the sake of economy.
To worry about the Sant’Agata Bolognese crossover, the future BMW X8 will at least have to use the 4.4-liter V8 which develops up to 625 hp under the hood of the BMW M5. But an additional horse cure will be required to reach the level of 650 hp distilled by the Urus. The BMW X8 will have, in any case, to play the bidding compared to the next generation of X6 M, expected during 2020 with 600 hp at least.
If the revelation of the BMW X8 could occur during 2020, it’s marketing, at a minimum price of € 100,000, should not be effective before 2021.
