BMW M5 2021 debuts. With the 5 Series, the M variant also gets an update. The changes are clear, but the effects are visible. Also, the sports sedan can now run an Android car; the Competition version now has the dampers from the M8 Gran Coupé.
The BMW M5 2021 and M5 Competition get the rather small retouches that are typical of the facelift of a successful series: front and rear aprons that are somehow different, modified lights and headlights, new colors, and rims. In the end, laypeople only see the differences when old and new stand side by side, and the expert points to it.
That’s not entirely different for the sporty 5s – and yet the new one looks fresher, wider, stronger, more determined even without the old. Maybe it’s also because of the color – Imolarot already looks like the fire brigade in the studio of M GmbH and fits perfectly with the dark borders of the rear lights or the now shiny black exterior mirror caps of the Competitions model.
The Power BMW can now also run an Android car
With the best will, the changes – see above – were not recognizable from the Erlkönigen. So the new optics have so far not been able to stimulate the demands of potential BMW M5 2021 customers – but they have not had to either.
Interested parties can rather look forward to small technical improvements with recognizable benefits: Like the normal 5 Series, the M5 variants now finally understand themselves with Android car or the corresponding smartphones. A look at the market share of this operating system shows how many customers could benefit.
There was no change in engine performance: the M5 still delivers 600, the M5 Competition 625 hp. The M5 achieves the standard sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds, after 11.1 seconds it reaches 200 km / h, the M5 Competition sprints to 100 km / h in 3.3 seconds, and 10.8 Seconds to 200 km / h.
Damper from the M8 Gran Coupé
The M5 Competition of the model year 2021 benefits from the fact that the Munich-based company has further developed its adaptive dampers for the M8 Gran Coupé. The new, derived shock absorbers, together with a retuning of the chassis, are intended to raise “handling and driving behavior in the limit area to an even higher level”.
In lap times, however, the Munich team does not want to express this. The main goal is to improve everyday comfort and make the four-door race track suitable for long distances. Because compared to the BMW M5, the BMW M5 Competition is 7 millimeters lower.
The BMW M5 model year 2021 costs at least 120,900 euros, for the M5 Competition, it is 129,900 euros. That is 1000 euros more than before the model update. A noticeable price increase, relatively less noticeable than the changes in the facelift.
